The tendrils of digital technology have in some way touched everyone. With electronic com-merce now a natural part of the business fabric of the Western world and Hollywood cranking out digital fluff by the gigabyte, the medium of digital technology holds less fascination for composers in and of itself. In this article, I will emphasize that the medium is no longer the message; rather, specific tools themselves have become the message.

I have no idea if that’s a good way to “break-in.” Considering that the state of journalism today is like that of a bank that has been robbed, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to “break-in” to it anyway. Mostly, I think schools are for dipshits and traditional ways of going about things are for losers. You can see where that got me. Blogging. And writing to you. And ruing my life choices. Go if your parents pay. If they don’t, forget it, or you’ll end up with $50K in debt you can never hope to repay.

PETA wishes Obama hadn’t swatted that fly

The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he’s bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

“We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals,” PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. “We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals.”

It’s sort of like having a bad drug problem. In the beginning, when you first start down the road to addiction, you wouldn’t think about going to work high, or doing lines in your office bathroom, or texting your dealer from an office Blackberry in the middle of an important meeting. But after you make it through a few conference calls whacked out of your mind you start to feel like you’re never going to get caught, and you start to take liberties… coming in late, leaving early, forgetting to wipe the puke off your mouth after a bathroom break, etc.

That’s the nature of “leaderboard” style competitions, a predatory context I tend to avoid, because I’m already quite acquainted with my own mediocrity, thanks! I don’t need it reinforced with visual aids.
