Huyana Pichu I

You can see a more clear view of Huyana Pichu, the temple mountain in the background.  This is just one of many sights that would greet an historian from Yale called Hiram Bingham when he rediscovered the site in 1911.  He wasn’t even looking for this site when his guide brought him here, but he was so inspired by what he saw he organized three subsequent expeditions supported by Yale and the National Geographic Society.  He would go on to serve as a US Senator and as one of the inspirations for Indiana Jones.
